REI is passionate about the outdoors. We are committed to inspiring and educating others to experience the benefits of active outdoor lifestyles, protecting and enhancing shared natural spaces, and mentoring the next generation of outdoor stewards. We also support hundreds of nonprofit organizations and are actively engaged in our communities across the country.

Tomorrow's Environmental Stewards

Children who develop an early appreciation for nature are inspired to be the next generation of environmental stewards. Developed in partnership with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in 2001, our Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids (PEAK) program is just one example of how we are educating young people how to recreate in shared outdoor spaces responsibly and help preserve these areas for all to enjoy.

Giving with Our Hands and Hearts

REI's giving and outreach efforts are centered on developing and supporting strong community relationships. We share the co-op's success by awarding grants to employee-nominated nonprofits that focus on caring for recreation areas or increasing participation in outdoor activities - especially among youth. We actively partner with leading outdoor groups and nonprofits that share our stewardship commitment.

Our employees also volunteer thousands of hours each year in service projects to make public lands, parks, trails and waterways more inviting and accessible.

Something for Everyone

For the outdoor novice or the experienced veteran — and all levels in between — REI provides thousands of opportunities such as classes, activities and volunteer projects for youth, adults and families. In-store events are hosted in communities across the country by REI employees, our nonprofit partners and other knowledgeable experts.

REI is Accountable

REI's stewardship report highlights our social and environmental efforts, including progress and opportunities against measurable goals. Our first stewardship report in 2006 established baseline metrics for efforts from community and employee engagement to greenhouse gas emissions. In our 2007 report, we are able to show progress on many fronts, as well as identify areas where we have work to do.

We invite you to read the full report, share our brochure with others and give us your feedback.
